The son also financially advises

Question:
My son studied hard and went into dentistry about three years ago but has always had passion for finance. Now he is questioning himself and is not happy. What advice can you give me as a mother to help my son through this frustrating time?

Answer:
Whichever profession your son chooses will provide good living, but what is important is that he pursues a career he loves.

All parents want to see their children happy. Changing careers is more popular than ever before. Unlike our parents, who may have stayed in a job because they felt secure and had to bring home the bacon, today we are faced with many choices and opportunities. Your support and understanding is what he needs right now.

Timing:
This is the time when all the foundation years given by parents will surface; their values, confidence and respect. Trust his judgment and believe that the decision he makes will be the right one. It is time to let go.

Balancing Act:
You have to strike a happy balance between trusting the actions your son will take but giving advice when it seems necessary. Parents do not want to see their childen make the same mistakes that they did, but how can a child learn if we take away all the excitement and drama in their lives?

Next Step:
Tell your son you him unconditionally no matter what he decides to do and that you trust his judgment and will respect his decision.

Weekly Remedy:
So often as parents age, they think their opinion is not as important and start to back away. This isn’t so. They still have a wealth of information bottled up inside ready to spill over. So be present and be vocal when you feel it is necessary.
