Find success with these follow-up secrets

Question:

Is there something I can add or remember to say when I write a thank you car or e-mail after going for an interview that will make me stand out?

Answer:

There are three guaranteed ways to stand out when conducting all types of follow-up.

DO IT

Thirty per cent of your employment success can be attributed to follow-up … so do it! In fact, if you don’t do it, employers make a note of it and you look bad.

RELAX

The latest intelligence from top employers in the city is that many people try way too hard in their follow-up.

This can actually reduce your chances of landing the position.

FOLLOW UP

Thank you + experience + next step. Example: “Thank you for meeting with me. My experience last year working for the bank, I believe, makes me a strong candidate for this position. I look forward to meeting you again to discuss further details of this exciting position.” After you send in your application for a position, you must follow up one week later if you have not heard anything. You have two options. Use the one you are most comfortable with.

ASSERTIVE

“Hello, my name is ______. I sent in my application last week for the position ______. I am following up to see where you are in the hiring process, and if you needed any more information from me?

VERY ASSERTIVE

“Hello, my name is ______. I am calling regarding the ______ opportunity. The purpose of my call is to arrange a 10-15 minute meeting to discuss this exciting opportunity. Would Thursday or Friday work for you?
