From Silverlight to Wordpress

Posted on the April 24th, 2008 under Miscellaneous by Eugene Gregorio

Hey folks. As you probably have noticed already - our blog looks different. Today, we completed the change from Silverlight to Wordpress. We wanted to give Silverlight a shot but there were just too many bugs. We  always find ourselves spending more time fixing bugs rather than promoting the site. This was really an easy choice to make. We’ve used Wordpress before so we’re happy we’re back using it again.

Version 2.5 of Wordpress looks awesome - clean, user-friendly and extremely fast. Good job Wordpress!

We’d like to thank Chris Pearson from Pearsonified.com for Neoclassical Theme.

MPLOYR reviewed and index on KillerStartups

Posted on the April 24th, 2008 under Miscellaneous by Eugene Gregorio

Doing a Google search this morning, found that KillerStartups.com has indexed our site in the SiteReviews page. Hope it gets featured on the home page this week as well. Thanks =)

About KillerStartups
KillerStartups.com is a user driven internet startups community. Entrepreneurs, investors, and bloggers are staying informed on up-and-coming internet startups using our blog platform, where internet entrepreneurs submit their startup to see what others think about it.

KillerStartups.com aims to help them both by reviewing up-and-coming internet startups right on the spot, right at their birth.

We saw a lot of things going on, so we decided to do something about it. We came up with the idea to create a space for a community where members could go and give their opinion, vote, and participate in order to get a feeling for what’s going to be big. We thought that if we put together a large enough group of the big internet players, with VCs, entrepreneurs, and suppliers all coming together to share a vision, something extremely powerful would have to come out of it.

We follow blindly the belief that the wisdom of crowds will be able to determine who “the next big thing” on the Internet will be. That’s why we want KillerStartups.com to tap into that wisdom, so that all of us as members of this community can benefit.

How does one job a week sound?

Posted on the April 24th, 2008 under Miscellaneous by Eugene Gregorio

If you’re from Vancouver or the west coast, the chances are you’ve heard about Sean Aiken, founder of OneWeekJob.com

Sean has a chance to travel anywhere in the world working 52 different jobs in 52 weeks trying to figure out what to do with his life. I admire Sean for brilliantly coming up with this idea as this is definitely a good way to truly finding your true calling. Maybe? Maybe not? (Perhaps ask Sean Aiken about his experience by visiting his website)

“After finishing college with a business degree, I made a promise to myself that I wouldn’t settle for a career that I am not truly passionate about. My goal is to gain a better understanding of what I need in a career to be happy and inspire others to go after their passions.”

I think the message we should take away from this is that we owe it to ourselves not to settle for a career that we’re not truly passionate about. If we’re unhappy with our career, it is NEVER too late to seek for employment or career that we can be passionate about. Wouldn’t it be great to work and play at the same time?

Read this article written by PHILIPPE DESROCHERS of 24HRS.
How dare you ignore your passion?

MPLOYR Mentioned in TechVibes Start-Up Index

Posted on the April 24th, 2008 under Miscellaneous by Eugene Gregorio

We made the list. We’re currently the last one but anticipate improved ranking the next round on April 15. Look forward to seeing the April’s result.

TechVibes, a leading online community (with 55,000 members) for technology professionals in Vancouver has included MPLOYR.COM in it’s Start-up Index.

The Techvibes Start-up Indexes are a monthly ranking of local start-ups based on an average of Alexa and Compete rankings.

The Index is intended as a jovial comparison of local companies. Comprehensive traffic data is difficult to obtain, and neither Alexa or Compete’s numbers are perfect; we average them to smooth out bias.Indexes are published on the 15th of each month.
